Samrong Beach is a hidden gem located at the northern tip of the island of Koh Samui, situated at the cape of Plai Laem. The bay is 200 meters long and is surrounded by rocky slopes covered in lush green vegetation. Despite the slightly murky water and coral thickets, visitors are still advised to exercise caution while enjoying the beach.
Samrong Bay is a picturesque and tranquil spot, situated in a serene location. The bay is relatively small, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in beauty. The seabed of the bay is covered in a breathtaking array of coral gardens and colonies of seaweed. These underwater formations are simply mesmerizing, and add to the overall charm of the area.
However, it’s important to note that the shoreline is dotted with sharp corals, which pose a potential hazard for those who venture into the water. Therefore, it’s highly advisable to wear appropriate swim shoes when entering the water at Samrong Beach, to avoid cuts and injuries. Despite the shallow water and the visible seaweed, it is still considered safer to wear swim shoes.
In the northern part of the bay, there is a pontoon pier that provides access to the deeper waters. The pier leads down to a clear and narrow pathway that takes you to the deeper parts of the bay. However, to reach the ideal spot for diving and swimming, one must walk approximately 50 meters away from the shore. This small trek is well worth the effort, as the clear waters offer a breathtaking underwater experience.
The beach boasts fine, soft sand of a light creamy shade and is free of any litter, making it a delightful and pristine spot for visitors. As you climb the hills above the northern end of the beach, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking panoramic view of the bay and the surrounding area. You’ll see a small section of Plai Laem Beach from the other side of the cape, the isle of Koh Som, and the larger neighboring island of Koh Phangan.
Overall, Samrong Beach offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere for visitors looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. Its beautiful sandy shore and stunning views make it a must-visit destination for those visiting Koh Samui.
